About Latehar Tourism The rustic town of Latehar is situated in the Latehar district within the Jharkhand state. Located 100 km from Ranchi, Latehar is a mineral rich district and well known for its natural forest resources. It was part of the larger Palamau district, in 2001 Latehar was given independent district status. It is surrounded by the districts of Lohardaga, Palamau, Gumla and Garhwa. Similar to other districts of Jharkhand, Latehar is scenic and has rich mineral and forest reserves making it attractive to both commercial and tourist interests. Primarily a tribal settlement that grew to be a large town, Latehar still has the quaint old world charm, not seen in large cities in India. The quaint peaceful lifestyles, rustic living and beautiful cultural amalgamation of tribal and non tribals have woven a unique cultural fiber in the district. Though the heritage and history can be traced to quite a few centuries, there are hardly any written records of the rulers. Exquisite avian species and wild life is abundant here, well settled in the protected forest tracks while the dense verdant jungles are worth exploring.
